    Look at that ’stache.

My soundtrack was very similar, but would have had more U2 (would have started with Desire) more Clash, and ended with Springsteen “I’m on Fire.” Because that song defined “hot” for me for several years.

Deb: I don’t know how I overlooked The Boss. “I’m on Fire” is an excellent choice. I had “Dancing in the Dark” in a previous draft. Not sure why I deleted it.

I wore out two copies of Born in the USA during the summer of 85. Springsteen and U2 were the only cool music I listened to as a teen. If I could go back in time, I would have listened to more Cure and The Replacements in the 80’s.

    Must burn retinas…now!

  4. on 27 Jan 2008 at 5:16 pm Herb Urban

Spacemom: My senior year picture was worse. The Jewfro and mustache were in full bloom. I’ll spare your burning retinas, but it was posted on my site months ago.

forget the jewfro and the ’stach… what the H_E_ double hockey sticks is up with that white undershirt??????

  6. on 27 Jan 2008 at 5:33 pm Herb Urban

Paisley: I think I forgot it was picture day, which explains the flannel shirt away. Though the white undershirt was a constant companion throughout high school. I am too dense fashion wise to see a problem with it even to this day.

Crispin baby… isn’t that type casting? Can’t wait for the DVD! ;)

  8. on 27 Jan 2008 at 7:04 pm Michelle

OMG you need to make that available on CD….I would pay for it for sure!

  9. on 27 Jan 2008 at 7:14 pm Herb Urban

Rob K: You have a point. I could always go with Chris Elliot, or just play myself. It will be a direct to DVD affair, so there might not be enough budget to affair Crispin II.

Michelle: If I ever pen the screenplay I’ll be sure to release a two disc soundtrack. I noticed I left out Vixen’s “Edge of a Broken Heart”. This would definitely need two discs. It needs some Lita Ford as well.

Wow! That brought back some memories!

I’m a few years younger so my high school soundtrack consisted mostly of REM, They Might be Giants, and U2. And towards the end of high school Nirvana.

If I only had more time I would start yet ANOTHER blog on the 80s and check out all of the music on your list. But I’ve got my hands full with the seventies right now :)

Diana: I’m waiting for the Time Life 80’s Collection Infomerical. Maybe they can land Todd Bridges and Martha Quinn as hosts.

rollerkaty: Most of the music I listened to in the 80’s, with the exception of U2, Springsteen and Prince was pretty forgettable. Debbie Gibson, Fine Young Cannibals, Wham! This is what we danced to!?!? I didn’t develop better music taste until the 90’s when I turned off the radio. I feel bad for teens these days. What does top 40 offer them?

I almost spilled my drink. :D
    Oups, did I say that?
    I mean, my orange juice!
Just in case the Kuwaiti Gestapo reads here too…..

You forgot ‘I Touch Myself’ by The Divinyls.

  16. on 28 Jan 2008 at 9:25 pm Herb Urban

Harry, I saved that for the college years soundtrack

Gotta love the 80’s! Great song list! Was the kid in the picture a partier perchance? LOL

well apart from U2, I don’t like anything on that list aside from, sssssh, don’t tell anyone but it sends me weak at the knees especially cos I had a very hot American boyfriend when I was 17, a real coup in the UK, who got me into them…….REO Speedwagon….especially Keep on Loving You. Of course he was also into Journey as well and though I had way cool music tastes, I loved em too.

Nice choices. This is my aftermyfirstgoatuniversityandwonderingwhattodowithmylife musical tape. I would pass on U2. I never liked those guys.

    Turn it into a playlist!

I guess I missed Tommy Conwell and the Young Rumblers.

  21. on 02 Feb 2008 at 8:21 am Herb Urban

Betty: Aside from U2, I doubt I still own any of that music. This was before I discover Dylan and Neil Young,.

Tommy Conwell, along with The Hooters and Robert Hazzard, were big in Philly where I grew up. They were signed to Columbia Records, but I don’t think they ever caught on nationally.

Hi Herb! Sweet photo and I love all the songs — I felt so nostalgic reading the titles (and I made notes for iTunes purchases!).
    :)
